New Year's resolutions or something like it: c-ent edition
Some of us are already in the new year while some us are still heading towards it and once again I’m curious:
1. What are your most anticipated cdramas/cmovies/cnovels for 2026?
2. What is on your personal watchlist/reading list – something you’re really keen on – for 2026?
3. If you do rewatch/reread things, anything you’re particularly looking forward to enjoying again in 2026?

Me-and-media update (Happy New Year!)
Previous poll review
In the dance dance revolution poll, 5.8% of respondents had danced with other people that week, 1.9% with a pet or other animal, and 28.8% had danced on their own, while 46.2% said no or not yet. Making the poll prompted me to dance with my sister in the kitchen for half a Spin Doctors song, but I didn't change my vote on that basis.
In ticky-boxes, "enthusiastically and fervently loving what you love" came second to hugs, 63.5% to 76.9%. Thank you for your votes! <3

Other TV
We finished Pluribus, which was super interesting in terms of a) moral quandaries, and b) difficult personalities crashing into each other. Finished the available episodes of Stranger Things and season 3 of Dark Winds, both of which were a bit dark, hence the doodling.
I've just signed up for Neon (NZ HBO), so this morning I did my stretches while John Oliver slagged off the British monarchy. I'm planning to try the new hockey sensation, but I'm saving it for while Andrew is in hospital, and we don't yet know when that will be. (In the meantime, no spoilers, please!)
Audio entertainment
The usual: Writing Excuses, Cross Party Lines, Letters from an American. Plus the AI episode of Our Opinions Are Correct.

* keep on top of my email inbox
* get my arms back on track
* finish a fic WIP (I keep starting new things and foundering -- which is a problem given picking stalled things up again isn't my strong suit)
* make some

* work through chapters 1 & 2 of the drawing book
* something for the next round of

JaguAwards 2025!

I had various different thoughts about how I was going to narrow down the very many great songs put out over the course of the year and in the end, we got … this. Just the one banner because I ran out of spoons ages ago.

Birdfeeding
Today is cloudy and cool. It spit snow a bit yesterday but didn't amount to anything.
I fed the birds. There was a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches perched in the forest garden waiting to be fed. :D
I put out water for the birds.
EDIT 12/30/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.
EDIT 12/30/25 -- I did more work around the patio.
EDIT 12/30/25 -- I did more work around the patio.
As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

Manga Check-in: Mob Psycho 100 v12ch90 (reread)

This is where I put I stopped on MAL/MU so I'm just going to trust it since it's so close to the end anyway. I do think I ended up just past the
Chapter 90 reread: I love how Mob is just 'Ritsu's brother' to Shou. XD
Dimple and Mob taking turns saving each other;;

"Nobody can rate someone else's thoughts as if it were a scoreboard!"
Mob was trying to calmly talk to Suzuki but then he talked down to Shou and that made Mob go to 77%. And Shou's face when he realized Mob was getting mad for him. Shou tried to jump in to help Mob but got smacked down. 😭
Reigen also tried to help but failed and got attacked, but Serizawa saved him! Aaand Mob reached 100%. Wait, has Reigen never seen him at that point?
Mob spotting Ritsu and remembering hurting him. 😭 He went from 100% Ecstasy to 100% Shame like whiplash.
Teru saying Mob is 'just a regular junior high student'. :')
The omake where they tried to influence their anime designs hahah. Dimple is...cute? Mob is muscular and Reigen is handsome.
Mob is so unbelievably kind. He can put himself in someone else's shoes and understand how and why he needs to make a move.
I missed this manga and the characters. I'm so grateful to this challenge for motivating me to go back into so much. ❤️️

Anime Check-in: Dr. Stone S4P2E10-12 END

Episode 10: Just casually shooting up Suika like that. 😭
So it's been 100 days since they took Xeno. And of course his first words (well, spoken anyway) to Stanley were questioning if he was slacking off lmao
Suika girl you really need a backup pair of glasses.
Xeno blames the higher-ups for not accepting his science inventions who instead sought 'power and conflict' but weren't all this inventions weapons of war?? Or did I misunderstand and he was forced down that path.
Stanley had the chance to shoot the last revival fluid but realized that Senkuu would revive Xeno again, and Xeno would get to continue making things with someone who understood him more than even him perhaps. The flashback to little Stanley watching little Xeno do science was sweet. It's clear that it was the boy who was passionate about all these things he was most interested in, not just what he could do.
I got chills as everyone turned to stone and then the little doggy and boar came along. 😭 And that poor cheetah got quite the fright!
Suika was way too young to be left alone like this ughh I know there was very little choice in the end but aHH.
Episode 11: Suika hugging Kohaku's statue 😭😭😭 She's the bravest little girl ever. Ughh my watery eyes.
Episode 12: Thinking about it, Suika is older than Mirai now.
I wonder why Senkuu decided to wait and revive them all at once instead of as he made the liquid? Honestly though I really like that he waited so everyone could reunite at once after that traumatic experience.
Tsukasa's first thought was Hyouga, and the look in his eyes...I see why people ship them. And Hyouga indulging them with his catch phrase lol
Tsukasa's image of the characters as old people. 😭
The earring/communicator kinda looks good on Xeno...
I'm only 6 chapters ahead of this part in the manga.

I prefer the manga panel more, Stan's lips are pursed in it and Xeno looks more in love but this is still nice!
He imagined Stan talking to him. :')

Darth Real Life is still on my heels, but:
Katabasis - R.F. Kuang
Two different and both clever and sensitive explorations of what the aftermath of the novel might have been like for Alice and Peter:
The Next Step
The Raven's Paradox
The Last Unicorn - Peter S. Beagle
In that clear unpeopled space: the Unicorn's long way to her forest. Has the poetry, the beauty and the character growth of the book.
Lord of the Flies - Willliam Golding
I Remember (Don't Worry) : in which Ralph encounters Jack years post novel. Disturbing in the way the book is, yet with some glimpse of hope.
Penny Dreadful
mimics the lampllight's struggle with the dawn: After a night of victory, Vanessa and Hecate, separately, search for their footing. Missing scene from the second season's finale, with both women and Malcolm expertly drawn.
The Radiant Emperor Series - Shelley Parker-Chan
The Calligraphy of Disgrace: in which we get another take on these novels' entertainingly screwed up soulmates relationship, with an AU twist.
Frederician Historical Fiction
Five times Amalie saw Luise, and one time Luisa saw Amalie: in which the "Five Things" format is expertly used to portray the relationship between the Melanie Wilkes of the Hohenzollern court and her sharp-tongued sister-in-law.
Courting the Chamberlain : in which we find out how Frederick the Great's lover got married to the resourceful Caroline Daum.
The Ring of the Nibelung - Wagner
Loyalty only to me: Hagen learns many lessons from his father over the years.
Some Desperate Glory - Emily Tesh
Again two different takes on a novel's aftermath, the first focused on Magnus, the other on Avi, which also doubles a great take on his development across several timelines.
Some Desperate Hope
Salvation from falling into the sea of misguidances

A couple of shows in Seoul
Rent (28 November, COEX Artium)
This was my first Rent experience, having somehow skipped the whole cultural phenomenon despite being the right age for it. This production was entirely in Korean - haha!
We went for the cast - Solji from EXID played Mimi and Jo Kwon played Angel on this night's performance. (SF9 Taeyang was playing Roger on other nights, and I wish I could've seen him too!) It was cute seeing people lining up to take photos with the cast photo of their fave actors.
As mentioned I've never seen Rent before. "Don't worry, it's just the same as La Boheme,"
proteinscollide told me breezily. I have in fact seen La Boheme, but do I recall it? Not really. I spent the interval reading up on the plot of Rent on Wikipedia LOL.
So large swathes of the story went over my head, but I did enjoy the songs and the dancing. Solji was wonderful. The lesbian couple were wonderful. Jo Kwon and Angel's boyfriend were wonderful. Roger the actor was great actually, though Roger the character seems like a loser.
I don't know if I would see this again in English - I didn't like the songs that much and the story seemed so over the top - but it was a fun thing to see once.
*
Woodz (29 November, Jamsil Indoor Stadium)
Woodz's concert was all but sold out, on the first of two nights in a row. The show was staged in the round, so Jamsil Indoor Stadium felt even more full than it would have otherwise.
It was a big show in every sense of the word. Right from the start, the show began with a 4 piece live band, dozens of dancers, intense lighting and dancing, Woodz in full idol mode - it was really impressive. Later he switched to rock ballads, with his band and his guitar, and alternated between the two. He was great in both modes but I think he really shone when he danced. He has such joy when he dances, he has a cheeky charm, it really feels like he just loves being up there.
The production made the most of being in the round. Even up in the nosebleeds, I never felt like I had a bad view and there was always something happening. The use of lights and video screens was so effective. During Drowning, when the stage looked like it was pouring with rain and the lightsticks in the audience rippled upwards, from the lowest to the highest seats like rising waters, as his voice soared over it all - it was so good.
Drowning was the big show stopper of course but it was so delightful for me when he played Bump Bump. During the encore he did songs on request, actually taking requests from audience members, which is so unusual in such a big arena show - and SO glad he did Love Me Harder! And I didn't realise until afterwards looking at the setlist that he played about 5 new or unreleased songs during this show. That's so many!
Seeing him live in a big stage like this, seeing him command the stage so confidently, was so good. I kept thinking about how he had debuted and debuted again, gone through survival shows, the heartbreak of X1 disbanding - and then to suddenly and unexpectedly blow up while enlisted in the military when Drowning went viral. It's an amazing story. Glad I got to see this show.

Themes: canon LGBTQ+ characters, Family, Established relationship, Missing scene
Summary:
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. ~ Thoreau
Or;
What happened when Yuna and Shane were talking.
Reccer's Notes:
I wanted this scene when I watched episode 6, and toomuchplor wrote it! This is what happens between Ilya and David when Shane is outside talking with Yuna. It's also about David observing how in love Shane and Ilya are, and about David and Yuna gradually getting to grips with all the revelations. It's wonderfully written, and just exactly what I'd hoped someone would write. Also, toomuchplor is in the vortex!! *excited noises* (this is plor's 3rd HR fic).

Summary: Luo Binghe is setting the beginning foundations of his attempt to prove himself the righteous cultivator Shen Qingqiu could welcome back to his side (and possibly love but let's not get ahead of ourselves here) when he hears his master's life is in peril. He leaps at the chance to prove his goodness and worth to his master.
Luo Binghe learns his master is not the man he thought he was.

Shen 'Airplane wrote this for an orgy wife plot/love confession but I'll be damned before I do anything like THAT' Qingqiu vs Luo 'If it were not for Shizun, I'd kill everyone on this mountain and then myself' Binghe, FIGHT
Reccer's Notes: Out of all the 'Binghe fights the System and finds out Shen Qingqiu's true identity' fics out there (and there will never be enough to satiate my cravings), this one is my favourite. Please don't be turned off by the grammar: this is such a perfect dissection of the many different parts of Shen Qingqiu slash Shen Yuan, following Binghe through a series of important memories as he pieces together the truth and reaches the core of the rift between he and his Shizun. It just feels so perfectly... conclusive: when it ended all I could do is sit back and bask in the satisfaction because it felt like such a perfect ending for them both!!

He leaps at the chance to prove his goodness and worth to his master.
Luo Binghe learns his master is not the man he thought he was.
AKA
