Gender Change AU MDZS Fic Recs
I've historically had kind of mixed luck with gender change AUs. There have been some that I've really enjoyed, but in most fandoms I haven't really sought them out so much as occasionally stumbled across one that looked interesting.
MDZS has changed that. I'm not sure WHY the MDZS fandom has produced so much incredible (and/or incredibly hot) cisswap femslash, but wow, has it ever! Unfortunately, there's no consistent tag for it, so finding it can be a little bit of a pain, since you have to dig through multiple tags, including Female Lan Zhan | Lan Wangjī/Female Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Gender or Sex Swap, Alternate Universe - Gender Changes, and others, but as I mentioned in my AO3 Wrapped 2021 post the other day, I've still managed to read so much that f/f Wangxian is my fourth most-read ship this year.
Almost all of these fics are modern AU or modern with magic AUs, and most of them could be read fandom blind. These recs are exceptionally smut-heavy even as somebody who recs smut frequently, so since smut tastes are such a personal thing and mine do lean towards the kinky, please be sure to check the tags before diving in. Most of the authors shared below have written more than one gender change AU fic in this fandom, so I'd encourage you to browse their other works if these particular fics don't strike your fancy. Even if Mo Xuanyu and Meng Yao had nothing to do with each other, it would be stupid to add another layer of complication to that by making moves on Mo Xuanyu.

And I'm with you -- I don't know why, but the cisswap f/f fic in Untamed is seriously hot. I don't know if it's a slightly different cultural setting or if f/f got a lot better while I wasn't reading it, but it is very, very hot.
