My Most Reread Fics of 2023

forestsofpine'Tis the season once again for Best Of lists! I read mostly in smaller fandoms again this year, and didn't do a ton of rereading, but here's some of the fanfics that I did come back to repeatedly in 2023:
Beyond Evil
Gift Horse Dentistry, Lee Dongsik/Han Juwon, 5k, mature - a little bit cracky, but hilarious and ultimately touching
if every house is haunted, Lee Dongsik/Han Juwon, 14k, general audiences - a really lovely and satisfying post-canon get-together fic.
K-pop RPF
pivot & slip, Choi San/Jung Wooyoung, 6k, explicit - based on their characters in the 'Bouncy' music video rather than their real personalities, grade A one-sided pining-while-fucking angst (and smut)
Honorable mention to come take it out on me (Kim Kibum/Choi Minho, 26k, explicit) - this was a longer fic than the one above, so I didn't reread it as many times, but it also features some excellent pining-while-fucking angst (and smut)
Stuff Like Love, Boo Seungkwan/Choi Soobin, 5k, teen - a friend recommended this one to me and I ended up quoting half the fic back at her in delight because it was so cute and funny, with great cameos by the rest of Seventeen and TXT

There's always a few fics that I read early in the year and come back to enough times that I know they're assured of being in this post for months before I start to actually compile it. There's also always a few that I read late in the year that I don't have time to reread very many times, but like enough that I can feel I probably will. So here's an honorable mention to a December read in that category, an arranged marriage fic with a twist: Butcher's Breath (Nie Mingjue/Jin Guangyao, 5k, mature)
Moonlight Chicken
green blue gold, Li Ming/Heart, 3k, teen - warm and lovely, like the show
Nirvana in Fire
Another honorable mention to another December read, a canon divergence scenario that gave me much to chew over: our hands our hearts are empty (Xiao Jingyan/Lin Shu|Mei Changsu, 9k, general audiences).
A Tale of Thousand Stars
Need a Love Reaction, Phupha/Tian, 2k, explicit - just a short, cute fic about Tian being a "tragic, horny mess" while he's away from Phupha
Word of Honor
two bad cats, Ye Baiyi/Xie Wang and Zhou Zishu/Wen Kexing, 6k, teen - Ye Baiyi and the Scorpion King get turned into cats and Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing get stuck with them, delightful
