Yeah, to be honest, I really enjoyed Ye Baiyi, but have rather complicated feelings about Scorpion in the drama.
WOH ending spoiler I have never really forgiven him for his role in Gu Xiang and Cao Weining's deaths.
Yet he's still such an interesting character that I'm always very intrigued by the fix-it possibilities that arise if he can be persuaded to make different choices.
I had the same reaction to Yexie as you. They'd make such an odd couple, but I can see the potential there! If you tweak canon events just right...
Anyway, this particular fic was written by an author who's written a number of my favorite fics across multiple different fandoms. She fell really hard for Xie Wang in the drama, and has written more than 20 fics about him, most of them Yexie. I've enjoyed a bunch of them and recced several in my Yexie tag.
Actually, looking through it quickly just now, it looks like ALL the fics I've recced in that tag were written by her. 😂
