Here's some of what I watched this year!

Movies

The movies I've watched this year have included, in chronological order by when I watched them:

  • Boston Strangler - wow, I'd forgotten this was the first movie I saw in 2025, not a cheerful pick at all

  • David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet - David Attenborough is a treasure and losing him is going to be terrible, especially now that we've lost Jane Goodall already

  • Wicked Little Letters - Unexpectedly loved this one, it was one of my favorites of the year, outstanding performance by Olivia Colman

  • La Dolce Villa - Netflix silliness

  • Runaway Jury - this was fun and twisty in a way I enjoy

  • In the Mood for Love - this movie was torture for my romantic soul but stunning in every way, loved the soundtrack, too

  • Witness for the Prosecution (1957) - I'm more of a Poirot fan than Christie's standalones, but this was a good time

  • Everest - you could not pay me to attempt to do this

  • KPop Demon Hunters - another super fun watch, I really enjoyed it and had the soundtrack on repeat the rest of the year like the rest of the planet lol, especially "Golden" and "Your Idol"

  • The Perfect Storm - similar to Everest, i.e. another reminder that nature always gets the last laugh

  • Death on the Nile (2022) - watched on a plane, definitely inferior in every way to the 1978 version, and even the David Suchet TV version, whyyyy did Poirot's mustache need an origin story for God's sake??

  • The Thursday Murder Club - this was delightful for most of its length, but I hated the ending and it left a bad taste in my mouth

  • Aitamaako’tamisskapi Natosi: Before the Sun - the guts of this girl

  • Indian Relay - interesting to see the male side after watching the female

  • Champagne Problems - Netflix Christmas silliness

  • 10DANCE - very pretty, and good kissing, but didn't love it as much as I wanted to

  • Wake Up Dead Man - I only watched this last night so I'm still thinking about how I feel about it. My initial reaction is that neither of the sequels has topped the original for me as mysteries, but I enjoyed them both and there's lots to chew over about this one. It's not as direct an allegory about real world people as the second one, while still clearly speaking to current events and the present moment in ways that touch on a lot of stuff I've been thinking about more and more as well.

In the Mood for Love was the best from an objective perspective, Wicked Little Letters and KPop Demon Hunters were my favorites, with the runners up probably being Runaway Jury and Wake Up Dead Man.

TV Shows

The TV shows I watched in 2025 included:

  • The Pitt, season one - My partner and I really enjoyed this. I haven't been super fannish about it to date, but I won't rule out the possibility in the future, especially if Abbot and Mohan get more interactions in s2.

  • Arcane, season one - I was hoping to get in on some of that Jayce/Victor action on AO3, but ended up more interested in Caitlin/Vi

  • M*A*S*H, most of seasons one and two - I've always heard this was a great show and my partner and I have really enjoyed it overall. Extremely funny, yet also often moving or thought-provoking. My main complaint, and it is admittedly a major one, is the sexism, which is kind of doubly annoying because the show was obviously progressive (or trying to be progressive) in many other regards (anti-war, anti-racism, etc), but scarcely any of the characters bat an eye at the constant casual sexism. However, if we write this aspect off as being a product of its time, it still holds up very well in many other regards and there have been multiple episodes of truly outstanding television.

  • House of the Dragon, seasons one and two - Another one I watched hoping to get into the fanfiction. That didn't really happen either, but it was interesting to get the little peek at Westeros ~200 years before ASOIAF, and it introduced me to a few more characters like Jin Guangshan that I'm going to really enjoy killing in every fix-it scenario I ever dream up.

In Progress
  • Heated Rivalry, season one
  • The Great British Bake Off, season 16
  • more M*A*S*H

Happy watching!
