Because there isn't one. I have to say, I love that the tv series approach to not being a gay romance was to make so much of it feel vaguely gay until well, clearly, that's just what "friendship" looks like in this world. I like Lan Xicheng, and I like xiyao canon AUs with happy endings or modern AU 3zun or xiyao with happy endings.
I have read the occasional Lan Xicheng/Jiang Cheng fic that worked for me -- mostly where JC can be sarcastic and gruff but still caring in a really practical, hard edges way.

Absolutely! LWJ deserves some friends. I doubt that he needs a lot, but I honestly love reading him finding friendship with any of the group.
