As I mentioned at the end of March, I was out of the country and with rather spotty internet access for almost a month from mid-March to mid-April, so that's why I'm combining my March and April fic recs this year. On top of that, I had an extremely busy day today and almost forgot that it was May 1st and time to post them, but here they finally are, squeaking in under the wire with a few hours to spare! 😅

MDZS/The Untamed Fic Recs

Thanks to [personal profile] shipperslist and [personal profile] out_there for some fun reads this month!

how Yao Yongzheng traveled back in time to save everyone, gen with background Wangxian, 6k, teen
"You were a man who loved the sound of his own voice," the shape says, voice drifting over to him like a half-forgotten scent. "So, how about you put that voice to better use and show what good you actually are."

OR

A story in which Fate challenges Sect Leader Yao to put his money where his mouth is and change everything better. Obviously, it should be easy and simple because Sect Leader Yao knows everything, right?

I Still Burn (for you), Nie Mingjue/Jin Guangyao, 9k, mature
"You're not a Nie," Nie Mingjue snarls as he strides past Meng Yao. "You shouldn't wear those braids."

He's right, Meng Yao knows it. He has no right to them but they serve a purpose. It's a spiteful act of disrespect to a clan that threw him out, the kind of bitter pettiness that Wen Ruohan encourages. But the true reason is that every morning it gives him a few moments where he can pretend he isn't here. He can watch his reflection in the bronze mirror, in his robes of dark grey, and remember Nie Huaisang teaching him, being somewhere that almost felt safe. (The idea of home has always carried some danger.)

1000 Stars Fic Recs

And thanks to [personal profile] shipperslist for this one, too!

Bloom Like a Flower, Phupha/Tian, 11k, mature
If there was one thing Tian knew for sure, it was this: there’s no such thing as fate binding two or more people together. Or if there is, it only exists in folklore and fairy tales. Except that now Tian has one around his wrist. He’s pretty sure he’s going crazy because Red Strings of Fate aren’t real, right?

Or are they?

Moonlight Chicken Fic Recs

It's always a wonderful surprise when an author you liked from one fandom suddenly posts something in another fandom that you also like, and doubly so when the surprise new fandom happens to be one of your tiniest.

Full Length of the River, Jim/Wen, 13k, explicit
Jim and Wen, falling further into love.

K-Pop RPF Fic Recs

my type, my joy (my style, my ego), Kim Kibum/Boo Seungkwan, 43k, explicit
"Are you allowed to be this annoying?" Seungkwan complains. "I'm trying to figure out if this is a sex thing and you're laughing at me!"

"Sorry," Kibum manages, waving a hand in front of his face like he can waft the hysteria away, gesturing at Seungkwan to eat. "Sorry, sorry, hyung didn't mean to be mean. You let your members bully you into jeans that tight when you're not sure if it's a sex thing?"

Seungkwan sections off an entire shrimp with his chopsticks and shoves it grumpily into his mouth. Just past the lip of the balcony and the evening is breathing new life into Seoul, the throb of UN Village spilling out onto the Han with every new light flickering over its surface, the ambient noise of music and chatter and traffic wrapping the two of them in their own illusion of privacy. More intimate, somehow, for being made aware of the world.

"Ugh, this is really good," Seungkwan grumbles. "I'm going to eat this whole thing and you aren't going to be able to get me out of them."

(Or: Kibum hadn't started out wanting to fuck Seventeen's Boo Seungkwan.)

This next one is another inspired by ATEEZ's "Bouncy" MV:

want it, burn it, Choi San/Jung Wooyoung, 8k, explicit
Wooyoung knows what it’s like to be hungry, too, in ways that have nothing to do with food. Hongjoong might be the one with the dream, but Wooyoung is no stranger to wanting. He’s wanted so many things in his life like he was starving for them. To dance and let that free him. To kiss San, and then keep kissing San and never stop. To go back home.

On wanting and having. A treatise by Jung Wooyoung.

Happy reading!
