MDZS/The Untamed Fic Recs

And Green the Ground Below, gen, 5k, general audiences
Three years after the events of Guanyin Temple, Lan Xichen attempts to leave seclusion. Featuring the importance of things that grow and heal.

and there was only one tent
, Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian, 21k, explicit
Lan Zhan gets into the front and Wei Ying hands him a paddle before getting in the back. The canoe rocks a little as they settle themselves.

“Comfortable?” Wei Ying says. Lan Zhan looks over his shoulder and nods. Wei Ying decides, abruptly, that this is probably the one of the best views he’s ever going to get in his life: Lan Zhan in the front of the canoe, wearing his baby blue baseball cap, bathed in sunlight, with the sparkling expanse of water all around them and the lush sugar maples in the background.

Wei Ying and Lan Zhan go camping.

"Congratulations, Get Rich"
, Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian, 9k, teen
Tomorrow is Chinese New Year, which means Wei Wuxian has to get all of his bad decisions out of the way tonight.

flourish, full flowered, Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian, 13k, teen
The landlady says, "How many rooms would you like, sir?" at Lan Wangji, in a way that strongly implies that Wei Wuxian had better not be chasing after a handsome alpha cultivator trying to return him to the bosom of his family before Wei Wuxian managed to irretrievably compromise himself.

Wei Wuxian opens his mouth to say "Two, please, auntie," in an effort to save Lan Wangji's reputation, but before the words leave his mouth, Lan Wangji says,

"One."

Both Wei Wuxian and the landlady stare at him. It's clear that the landlady is trying to figure out if this upright-looking cultivator is the one actually taking advantage of a scrawny omega with donkey shit on his boots, but Wei Wuxian isn't much less confused.

here comes your ghost again, gen with a side of Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian, 4k, teen
He stitches a tiny row of suns along the left cuff of his inner robe—not flames, never flames, not after Lotus Pier burned, not after Wen Qing burned—suns, life-giving and scorching, for the last, best doctor of Qishan Wen. She would probably laugh at his badly sewn suns and his sentimentality, but her eyes would be soft. Some days, he misses her so much he thinks it might swallow him whole.
-
or, post-canon wei wuxian mourns wen qing

it burns as it moves you
, Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian, 1k, explicit
What he thinks of, in the darkest, fiercest, most secretive corners of his mind, is this: Wei Ying has offered to kneel. Lan Wangji would like to make him.

One Rogue Spark in My Direction, Xiao Xingchen/Song Lan/Lan Wangji, 5k, explicit
He’d thought, in Yueyang, that they’d seen something in each other, something familiar. That maybe they’d recognized something in him. But it’s been many years, and many things have happened since, and he’s guessed wrongly at other people’s hearts before. Lan Wangji looks back down at the table, at his steaming, bitter tea. He’ll beg if he has to.

Then There's No One There, Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian, 12k, teen
"Oh, and speaking of pretty boys," Nie Huaisang says, turning back to Wei Wuxian's unconscious form, "Don't get me started on poor Second Master Lan. He's pathetic without you, you should really see him. He's practically in tears without you here to flirt with him! He's mooning over your corpse like —"

"Nie Huaisang, that's enough," Lan Wangji snaps. He struggles with what to address first; the worst is that, "Wei Ying is not a corpse. Don't say such things."

"Sorry," Nie Huaisang says. "But sitting there silently and willing him to wake up isn't going to help, Hanguang-Jun. You want him to wake up, right? Then tell him why!" He whacks Lan Wangji's shoulder lightly with his fan.
--
Wei Wuxian is unconscious for three days after the fall of QishanWen. His friends worry themselves sick.

what i have of you
, gen, 5k, teen
He sighs. “I’ll go,” he says. “Thank you.”

“I thought you might know what to do,” she says, relieved. “Chifeng-zun always knew how to make them feel better, he was so kind to them—”

“I can’t promise anything,” Nie Huaisang says, sharper than he means, and then hides behind his fan to soften it, and to hide the tremble of his chin. “I don’t know anything about horses.”

A capriccio series

1. allegro non troppo (a piacere), Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian, 1k, general audiences
Lan Zhan's neighbor plays flute at three in the morning, because he is the worst man to ever have existed, and furthermore, the universe hates Lan Zhan specifically.

2. Adagio Con Moto, Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian, 21k, explicit
Lan Zhan generally tries not to think about how long it's been since he's wanted something to play, just for himself. Unfortunately, the universe has decided that it's time for him to give it a little thought.

(Lan Zhan, a burnt-out classical violinist, finds a little inspiration)

Problematic Cloud Recesses Disciple Shenanigans series:

⚠ mind the pairings and tags

1. smoke gets in my brain, Lan Xichen/Lan Wangji, 4k, explicit
“I would still like to be kissed,” Wangji says, and his hand is very hot on Lan Xichen’s cheek. Perhaps one of them has a fever, or they both do.

He opens his mouth to ask if they should open the window for some cool air.

His brother kisses him as if that is what Lan Xichen had intended.

He will not be sure, later, whether it was.

2. burn these sheets down to the seams, multiple ships, 6k, explicit
Jiang Cheng is absolutely mortified. He is never going to be able to look Lan Xichen in the eye again, even though he thinks he managed to fasten his outer robe before Lan Xichen saw anything. Still. They are going to be sect leaders together one day and every time they look at each other across a negotiation, he knows they are both going to remember Lan Xichen dragging his brother away from Jiang Cheng’s brother like a naughty puppy being scruffed, while Jiang Cheng tried to find a way to sit to hide his erection.

“Oh my god,” Huaisang gasps against Jiang Cheng’s shoulder, near-cackling. “We’re going to get murdered. We have to run away tonight and take new identities. We’re going to be outlaws. I didn’t pack for this.”

Wei Wuxian says, wild-eyed, “I can’t run away. I touched his dick, Huaisang, they won’t let me live, they’re going to bury me under the mountain and no one will ever find my bones.”

Jiang Cheng tries to get some sort of handle on the situation because clearly no one else is going to.

Word of Honor Fic Recs

A Good Bargain, Zhou Zishu/Wen Kexing, 11k, explicit
The Window of Heaven captures the Ghost Valley's master. Zhou Zishu is put in charge of interrogating him.

But Wen Kexing has a plan of his own…

this harbored deluge for you and i // 像我和你需要下一场雨, Zhou Zishu/Wen Kexing, 30k, mature
Three months. He’ll stay three months. Just long enough for that shrimpy Zhang Chengling to wean into this new world, and then he’ll leave. Just three months he’ll allow himself that brassy, beautiful line cook, who barked the most flirtatious insult at Zhou Zishu as he charged down the cracked asphalt with a towering pallet jack of wholesale soy sauce boxes; his voice magnetic like an army general’s, clear above the rumbling gallop of his condiment fleet.
-
chaperoning a new orphan across the Pacific runs into complications.

this never-ending simple tenderness
, Zhou Zishu/Wen Kexing, 3k, general audiences
As Zhou Zishu raises his head, his line of sight is tangled with Wen Kexing's gaze. Around them, the music playing in the background and sounds of people picking vegetables and pushing their carts drop away. It's enough for the both of them to break into smiles. Wen Kexing lifts a hand to rest on Zhou Zishu's left hand where it's draped over the handle of the shopping cart, and gives it a light squeeze.

"A-Xu," he says.

"Mm," Zhou Zishu responds.

A fic about the inherent romance of ambling through a supermarket on a Tuesday afternoon with the person you love.

HYLCU series

Last month, I recced the first fic in this series: with inexplicable fondness (Zhou Zishu/Wen Kexing/Han Ying, 17k, explicit). This month, I read parts two and three:

2. with tenderness to keep, Wen Kexing/Zhou Zishu/Han Ying, 14k, explicit
Wen Kexing has made some promises and some threats. He intends to make good on both, and he has plans for the morning after.

Plans that might not exactly pan out precisely as Wen Kexing intended (so what else is new), but work out very, very well for everyone involved.

3. with a heart too open, Wen Kexing/Zhou Zishu/Han Ying, 14k, explicit
Back when there were still Siji disciples in Tianchuang, they all spoke about the Manor in the same way. With wistfulness that seemed seeped into their bones, with a yearning for a hearth in the heart of winter. To Han Ying, who had never grown roots anywhere that weren’t quickly torn out, Siji Manor was a fairytale, a place of legends and mist, unreal but beloved.

How unlikely it was that the fairytale paled when compared to the reality of the place. Not just because of its beauty, though it had lived up to every story he’d heard, and he’d heard many. Not because of the reputation it was quickly regaining in the martial world. But because every time Han Ying found himself there, even the first time, bringing danger and trouble, he found Lord Zhou here looking like he finally was home.

Or:
Han Ying sets out with a plan to dismantle Tianchuang, but in the process manages to salvage the important pieces of it, and perhaps figures out where and how he belongs.

Happy reading!
