I agree with that so much. I don't want JGY to be a saint, I feel like he should still be allowed to murder the truly horrible people, but I want him to be happy with LXC above all that. (Or if it's a modern AU, I want him to be scheming and petty and vicious, but adore LXC and protect him above all else. I think the best example of that is probably Meng Yao vs the Homeowner's Corporation, because we get that pettiness and we also get JGY and WWX being great friends/Brothers-in-laws/gremlins married to good Lan boys.)

It took me a while to come back to this, because I don't remember titles well and I never keep a good list of recs. I mean, I found links to YouTube vids of Xiyao and xicheng as a love triangle and my favourite vid of jin ling and jiang cheng, but it took me like an hour to find the story I was thinking of. Post-canon, with a wonderfully brusque JC voice that really captures that cranky yet caring vibe.
