2021 Year End Fic Tracking Stats

forestsofpineDecember 2020 was the first month I read MDZS fic and I thought it would be interesting to see how much I read in the first flush of fannish enthusiasm, so I used a spreadsheet to keep track of everything I read. Turns out, I read 1,004,141 words in a little more than two weeks and had enough fun tracking it that I decided to keep a fic reading spreadsheet for the whole year of 2021.
Here are my 2021 results:
I recorded reading a total of 848 fics in 2021. This includes everything I liked enough to finish reading, plus a few WIPs and most full rereads, although it doesn't include partial rereads or fics I started reading but DNF'd.
848 fics in one year is way, way more than my average, which is probably typically closer to 1-3 fics per week and has, in my going-on-two-decades in fandom, occasionally been closer to 1-3 fics per year. Really goes to show the impact a new fandom (or three) can have!

Prior to my last-minute Yuri on Ice binge that bumped it up to #5, the #10 spot would have been a three-way tie between Yuri on Ice, Cherry Magic, and Good Omens with 2 fics each.

(The plan was top 20, but there were several ties so instead it's every ship with >5 fics read)
I didn't start tracking ships until mid-year and while I did go back and add in as many major ships as I could remember from the fics I read earlier in the year, this is still probably less accurate than the word counts or top fandoms as a result. It also does not include rereads. Still, I think the order is probably more or less correct even if the fic count might be off for some.
Even though I didn't rec stuff for every one of these ships here in this journal, the fic count does represent fics I liked at least enough to finish reading, so if you're curious about any of the ships I don't yet have a tag for, let me know and I can most likely dig up some recs!
