2022 Year End Fic Tracking Stats

I use a spreadsheet to track my fic reading and and here are my 2022 stats!
For comparison, here are my 2021 stats, and in 2022 I also did mid-year fic reading stats out of curiosity to see how things would change from the first half of the year to the second.
2021 was probably one of my most prolific fic reading years ever. It was my first year in the massive MDZS/CQL fandom after finishing The Untamed in December 2020, and I also got into Word of Honor and Nirvana in Fire, which are mid-sized fandoms that both have quite a bit of quality fic, so I read MUCH more fic than usual - more than 12 million words, or an average of more than 1 million words per month.
In 2022, I watched a bunch of Kdramas and Thai BLs and got into a bunch of new fandoms as a result, but unfortunately (and in some cases to my great disappointment) most of them had small fandoms, so I read less fic even though I got into more new fandoms.
I recorded reading a total of 406 fics in 2022, compared to 848 in 2021. This includes everything I liked enough to finish reading, plus a few WIPs and most full rereads, although it doesn't include partial rereads or fics I started reading but DNF'd. Despite being less than half the number of fics I read last year, I'm pleased I still managed to average more than one fic per day all year.

Top Fandoms
I read a total of 43 different fandoms this year, compared to 27 last year. Here is a list of every fandom where I read five fics or more. Asterisks mark fandoms that are new to the >5 list this year.
I added four new fandoms to the >5 fics list since mid-year. I've been reading an occasional smattering of K-pop RPF for years, but it shot way up the list in the second half of the year after I got into Seventeen. The Thai BLs Until We Meet Again and Love in the Air and the Korean BL Semantic Error also made it onto the list in the second half of the year.
Top Ships

Wangxian supremacy, two years in a row
I read a total of 120 ships in 2022, compared to 146 last year. This includes slash, het, femslash, and polyamorous ships, but not gen ships, as I don't track those as consistently. Here is a list of every ship with >5 fics read this year. Asterisks mark ships that are new to the >5 list this year.
The biggest change since mid-year, as I mentioned in the mid-year stats themselves, is that Vegas/Pete shot up the list from zero fics read at the start of June to fifth place in the first two weeks of July after episode 10 of Kinnporsche aired, and ended the year in second place, beating Lee Dongsik/Han Juwon from Beyond Evil, another ship that was new to me this year and which I also loved, but which has a much less prolific fandom.
Vegas/Porsche, also from Kinnporsche, Win/Team from Until We Meet Again and Between Us, Seungkwan/Vernon, a K-pop RPF ship, and Jang Jaeyoung/Chu Sangwoo from Semantic Error also made it onto the >5 fics list for the first time in the second half of the year.
I read more different fandoms in 2022 than 2021, but fewer ships. I think it's because a majority of the ships I read in 2021 (83 out of 146) were from MDZS, which has a huge, prolific fandom and a large cast that's fun to mix and match. Most of the new canons I added in 2022 have much smaller fandoms and are more focused on just one or two popular pairings, so I read a lot fewer rarepairs this year.
In 2022, MDZS was still the fandom in which I read the greatest variety of different ships, by a wide margin. I read 34 unique MDZS ships. Kinnporsche was the only other fandom that even came close, with 23 unique ships, of which 9 were just different combinations of Kinn, Porsche, Vegas, and Pete. Then there was another big jump down to K-pop RPF with 14 unique ships, and no other fandom had more than 4.
Happy New Year, and here's to another great year of fic reading!
