I use a spreadsheet to track my fanfic reading, and here are my 2025 stats!

Stats from previous years:

2024: Year-end
2023: Year-end
2022: Mid-year | Year-end
2021: Year-end

I recorded reading a total of 198 fics in 2025, compared to 206 in 2024. This includes everything I liked enough to finish reading, plus a few WIPs and full re-reads, but not partial re-reads or fics I started reading but DNF'd. You can check out some of my most-reread fics of the year here.

I'm still between major fandoms, so it was another slow year for me.

Words Read in 2025

January: 363,366 words (best month)
February: 114,260
March: 87,680
April: 29,736 (worst month)
May: 111,187
June: 214,232
July: 94,793
August: 186,612
September: 30,359
October: 48,065
November: 57,751
December: 215,754

Total: 1,553,795 words

Top Fandoms

I read for a total of 47 fandoms this year, compared to 32 last year. Here is a list of every fandom where I read five fics or more. Asterisks mark fandoms that are new to the >5 list this year.

  1. K-pop RPF - 55
  2. MDZS/CQL - 29
  3. SHINee - 25
  4. Word of Honor - 16
  5. Seventeen - 13
  6. Harry Potter* - 11
  7. Beyond Evil - 10
  8. House of the Dragon* - 9
  9. The Pitt* - 9
  10. ATEEZ - 8
  11. Kinnporsche - 7
  12. Heated Rivalry* - 6
  13. Kpop Demon Hunters* - 5
  14. Marvel - 5
  15. EXO - 5
  16. SuperM - 5

Re: the K-pop RPF stats, I tracked K-pop RPF both as an umbrella fandom and by individual groups, so, for example, the 25 SHINee fics are part of the 55 K-pop RPF fics, and not in addition to.

I dabbled a little bit in several new and new-to-me fandoms, as you can see, but despite enjoying what I read, none really took off and became a new hyperfixation. (Heated Rivalry, the latest addition to this category, remains to be seen.)

I also read more Harry Potter fic than I have in years, but with the final result of concluding that I'll always have fond memories of my time in that fandom, but the combination of not really liking the direction the story took in the later books and JKR's recent behavior has ruined my interest in it, probably permanently.

Top Ships

All five members of SHINee made it into my most shipped characters list this year thanks to some rarepair reading, and Minkey was my top ship for the second year in a row

I read a total of 109 ships in 2025, compared to 91 last year. This includes slash, het, femslash, and polyamorous ships, but not gen ships, since I don't track those as consistently. Here is a list of every ship with >5 fics read this year. Asterisks mark ships that are new to the >5 list this year.

  1. Choi Minho/Kim Kibum | Key - 17
  2. Ye Baiyi/Xie Wang - 15
  3. Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian - 14
  4. Lee Dongsik/Han Juwon - 10
  5. Ilya Rozanov/Shane Hollander* - 8
  6. Vegas/Pete - 6
  7. Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy* - 5
  8. Jack Abbott/Samira Mohan* - 5

The fact that Hollanov is already in 5th place after being out for barely a month is cheering me, maybe it will at least be a Kinnporsche-level fandom for me: not a serious hyperfixation, but a regular source of enjoyable smut reading material. (~waves at future me~ How funny is this statement going to become?)

Past me, meanwhile, thinks it's hilarious that it was Drarry of all ships that made it into the top ships list for the year from the Harry Potter reading I did, since I was never into Drarry when I was actively in the Harry Potter fandom. Time has not changed this tbh, as you can tell by the lack of associated recs.

This year, I read the greatest number of different ships in the K-pop RPF fandom at 41 ships, spread out across several sub-fandoms for different groups, including 14 SHINee ships, 10 Seventeen ships, and 8 ATEEZ ships.

35 of these ships were between members of the same group, 4 involved members of different groups, and 2 were ships from the supergroup SuperM, with members who are sometimes in the same group and sometimes not. Members with the most ships included Kim Kibum, Choi Minho, and Lee Taemin of SHINee with 6 ships, and Lee Jinki and Kim Jonghyun of SHINee, Kim Mingyu of Seventeen (last year's winner), and Jung Wooyoung of ATEEZ with 5 ships apiece. (As I mentioned above, I did a bit of SHINee rarepair reading this year, hence all five of them being in this list.)

The fandoms with the next highest number of different ships I read were MDZS/CQL (18 ships) and Harry Potter (5 ships), and the characters with the greatest number of individual ships I read this year from non-K-pop fandoms included Wei Wuxian, Jiang Yanli, Jiang Cheng, Lan Wangji, and Lan Xichen from MDZS/CQL with 4 ships apiece.

Top 20 Tags

I don't track tags in my spreadsheet, but I did a little messing around with search filters in my Calibre library to see if I could get an idea what my top tags might have been for the year, and, excluding category tags like m/m and gen, the top 20 appear to have been:

  1. Canon Compliant
  2. Post-Canon
  3. Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence
  4. Anal Sex
  5. Alpha-Beta-Omega Dynamics
  6. Getting Together
  7. Alternate Universe - Modern Setting
  8. Humor
  9. Oral Sex
  10. POV Outsider
  11. Established Relationship
  12. First Kiss
  13. First Time
  14. Mating Cycles/In Heat
  15. PWP
  16. Dirty Talk
  17. Dubious Consent
  18. Loss of Virginity
  19. Crack Treated Seriously
  20. Slow Burn

So that was my 2025 in fanfiction. Best wishes to all for an excellent fannish 2026!
